The latest American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials released in 2021 require nursing educators to incorporate the ten broad domains with included competencies and sub-competencies across four spheres of healthcare, the lifespan, and among diverse patient populations. Each of the ten domains includes Level 1 and Level 2 sub-competencies that differentiate between entry-level professional nursing education and advanced level nursing education. As HIT professionals interact with each other, the need for interprofessional collaboration is essential.

About the author










Mary Joy Garcia-Dia, DNP, RN, FAAN FHIMSS authored numerous journal articles and contributed chapters on nursing theories and informatics. In 2019, she published a book on Project Management in Nursing Informatics. She develops graduate-level courses on nursing informatics and holds adjunct faculty positions at France Payne Bolton School of Nursing Case Western Reserve University and City University of New York School of Professional Studies. She is a member of the Editorial Board of Nursing Management Journal writing topics on leadership and technology. She currently works as Program Director of Nursing Informatics at NYP Hospital.
Olga Kagan, PhD, RN, CIMI, FAAAAI, FHIMSS is a healthcare consultant, with a background in nursing informatics, administration, innovation, research, policy, and education. She is a founder of Food Allergy Nursing Interest Group, and co-founder of Collaborative Healthcare Innovation, Research & Problem-Solving Group. She teaches at two NY-based universities and serves as an associated editor for a peer-reviewed journal, and as an advisory board member for non-for-profits and start-up companies. She is a past board member of the HIMSS NYS Chapter Board of Directors, who currently serves as SONSIEL executive board member and chair of the SONSIEL Research Committee. She is a fellow at the NYAM, AAAAI, and HIMSS. Dr. Kagan is a recipient of several honors and awards. She enjoys paying it forward as a mentor and a judge for science and innovation driven events.
