Digital Light Processing and Stereolithography Additive Manufacturing: Fundamentals, Applications, and Trends explores the transformative potential of DLP and SL 3D-printing technologies, making it an essential resource for professionals and researchers in the field. The book begins with an in-depth examination of vat photopolymerization fundamentals and the technological requirements needed for successful implementation. It then compares DLP and SL to other light-induced additive manufacturing processes, detailing the unique chemistry and materials science involved, including resin formulation. This foundation provides readers with a thorough understanding of how these advanced techniques function and the materials they produce for various applications.

In addition, the book highlights the versatility of DLP and SL technologies across a wide range of industries. Key applications include structural design, dentistry, soft robotics, sensors, biomedicine, and microfluidics, as well as catalysis and chemical engineering. The final section addresses emerging trends such as the development of sustainable and bio-based materials, the use of vitrimers and controlled polymers, and innovations like 4D printing and hybrid additive manufacturing.

About the author

Dr. Ignazio Roppolo is Assistant Professor in Experimental Physics of Matter at Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy. Dr. Roppolo is leader of a laboratory specifically focused on light-induced 3D printing. He has published more than 90 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, with more than 2700 citations, among which more than 40 papers specifically focused on light induced 3D printing and DLP. After achieving a PhD in Material Science and technology in 2012, he moved to Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), and since 2015 his research aimed at exploring novel fabrication routes through a materials science-based approach to 3D printing, merging chemical, physical and design characteristics to obtain synergistic proper. When he moved to Politecnico, in 2017, he started to apply the know-how developed in light induced 3D printing in different applications filed such as biomedical, sensor, chemical engineering and new and sustainable materials.
