About the author

Dr Michael J Powers KC BSc MB BS DA FFFLM LLD (hons) has over 40 years’ experience in all areas of medico-legal practice in England and several other common law jurisdictions, and extensive coronial experience. He is a Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn (1998) where he is an advocacy Tutor Trainer. As a strong supporter of the NHS, Dr Powers advocates constant attention to standards of practice and an open system of accountability when things go wrong. Before coming to the Bar, he held hospital appointments in a number of specialties including obstetrics and anaesthesia. He remains a registered Medical Practitioner and is a lead examiner for Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians, of which he is an elected Fellow.Dr Anthony Barton is a solicitor and medical practitioner. He has experience as a coroner in London. He has been a Parliamentary adviser on clinical negligence. He has written and lectured widely on medicolegal topics including clinical negligence, access to justice, compensation, coronial law, and product liability. Formerly with a leading City specialist practice, he is joint proprietor of Medical Negligence Team Law, a law firm which specialises in clinical negligence claims.
