About the author
Dr. K. Muthukkumaran is currently BIS Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, India. He obtained Ph.D. in Soil-Structure Interaction and Marine Geotechnical Engineering from Indian Institute Technology Madras. He has published more than 150 papers in international and national journals and conferences. He has completed several R & D projects (including ISRO Chandrayaan Mission project) and granted 4 patents including “Moon Soil” (A Method for Manufacture of Highland Lunar Soil Simulant). He has completed more than 100 major consultancy projects in Geotechnical Engineering and guided more than 70 Masters and PhD scholars in Geotechnical and allied research areas. He is the Founder Chairman of Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS-Trichy) Trichy Chapter. He is a member of Technical Committee (TC-301 on Preservation of Historic Sites) & Technical Committee Member (TC-208 Slope Stability) of International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. He has received the DST Young Scientist Award, IGS- Smt. Indra Joshi Biennial Award and Keynote Paper Award – GEOMATE Conference 2015 at Osaka, Japan. He is an Associate Editor of the Australian Journal of Civil Engineering and editorial board member of several journals. Prof. Muthukkumaran has significant administrative contribution as Estate Officer, Associate Dean (Planning and Development), Member of Buildings and Works Committee and Member of Board of Governors (BoG) of National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli and Member of Buildings and Works Committee, IIM Trichy. He has received NIT Trichy Achiever Awards many times for research publications, research projects, maximum citation and consultancy projects. He is a recipient of BHARAT VIKAS AWARD (2018). Prof. Muthukkumaran has received Construction Industry Award (2023) on Excellence in ISRO Chandrayaan Mission Projects and First IGS President Award-2023 for “Special Role in a Project of National Importance”.
Dr. K.M. Mini is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore. She earned her B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from Calicut University, Kerala, her M.E. from Coimbatore Institute of Technology, and Ph.D. from Anna University, Chennai. Her research interests include Composite Structures, Sustainable Construction Materials, and the use of Waste Materials in Civil Engineering Applications. Dr. Mini has guided 6 completed Ph.D. students, 8 ongoing Ph.D. students, and over 30 master's students. She has delivered more than 20 invited and guest lectures. Dr. Mini K M has published 105 papers in respected national and international Scopus-indexed journals. She has patent on “an apparatus for spraying a mixture of construction materials”, ( Patent No. 504339) and “Composite jacketing material for concrete structures and method of application thereof (Patent No. 555960)” and two others are published. Dr Mini has published a book on “Analysis and Assessment of Infilled Frames Using Artificial Neural Networks", Published by Lambert Academic Publishers, Germany (ISBN # 978-3-8443-1068-9)” and coauthored two book chapters . She won the first prize in the Swachh Technology Challenge Suchitwa Mission & Swachh Bharat Mission, 2022, organized by the Government of Kerala. She is also the principal investigator of various projects supported by DST, AICTE, and IEI.
Dr Sanjay Kumar Shukla is a world-renowned expert in Civil (Geotechnical) Engineering. He serves as Founding Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Geosynthetics and Ground Engineering, Switzerland, and is Founding Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering Research Group Leader at Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia. He holds Distinguished Professorships at several universities, including esteemed Delhi Technological University, Delhi, India and Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, USA. Dr Shukla is a distinguished fellow of American Society of Civil Engineers and Engineers Australia. He has contributed significantly to academic literature, including 28 books and over 330 articles, placing him among the world’s top 2% of scientists over several years, according to Elsevier, and among the top 0.5% globally by ScholarGPS. Recognised for his excellence, he has received prestigious honours, including 2024 Distinguished Honour by the Consulate General of India, Perth, 2021 ECU Aspire Award, and highly esteemed 2018 IGS Award from the International Geosynthetics Society, USA. His groundbreaking work, including his generalised expressions for seismic active thrust (2015) and passive resistance (2013), along with the innovative Shukla’s wraparound reinforcement technique, has become an essential part of engineering education and is widely applied by engineers worldwide. His research mantras, introduced in 2022, have been instrumental in promoting sustainable research practices globally.
Dr. K. S. Kasiviswanathan is Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and a Joint Faculty member at the Mehta Family School of Data Sciences and Artificial Intelligence at IIT Roorkee. He obtained his B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from Anna University, his M.Tech from IIT Roorkee, and his Ph.D. from IIT Madras. He completed two postdoctoral fellowships, one at the University of Calgary, Canada, and another at Heriot-Watt University, UK. Previously, he was Assistant Professor at the School of Engineering, IIT Mandi. Dr. Kasiviswanathan’s research focuses on Reservoir Operation, Flood Risk Management, Multi-Objective Optimization, Uncertainty Analysis, Water Resources Systems Analysis, and the Application of Machine Learning Techniques in Hydrological Modeling. He has published over 60 research articles and has been a guest editor for the book series “Modeling and Mitigation Measures for Managing Extreme Hydrometeorological Events Under a Warming Climate.
