About the author
Andréa S. Taschetto is an Associate Professor in the Climate Change Research Centre at the University of New South Wales. She is also a researcher at the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centres of Excellence for Climate Extremes and the 21st Century Weather and the Climate Systems Hub of the National Environmental Science Program (NESP). Her research investigates the mechanisms by which the oceans affect global and regional climate, including the impacts associated with the different types of El Niño Southern Oscillation on the atmospheric circulation and extremes such as droughts and floods. Andréa was awarded the Dorothy Hill Award from the Australian Academy of Science in 2016 for her contribution to the climate science field. She is currently a co-chair of the CLIVAR Pacific Regional Panel and a member of the Tropical Basin Interactions Research Foci. She is an Editor for the Journal of the Southern Hemisphere Earth Systems Science.Thando Ndarana is an Associate Professor in Meteorology in the Department of Geography, Geoinformatics and Meteorology at the University of Pretoria. His main research is on weather systems dynamics, extreme weather predictability and the impact of stratospheric ozone depletion on surface climate. Thando is a member of the World Weather Research Programme's (WWRP) Working Group on Predictability, Dynamics and Ensemble Forecasting (PDEF), the International Commission on Dynamic Meteorology (ICDM) and the International Commission on the Middle Atmosphere (ICMA). Both the ICDM and ICMA are commissions with the International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences.Tercio Ambrizzi is a Full Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. He is the coordinator of the Center for Climate Change Research at USP. He is a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He works in atmospheric sciences, with emphasis on Dynamic meteorology, numerical modeling and climate change. He has published hundreds of articles in specialised journals, dozens of book chapters and has supervised PhD, Masters, and postdoctoral studies. For many years he was a member of the Joint Scientific Committee of the World Climate Research Project (WCRP). He is currently the director of the Institute of Energy and Environment at USP.
