About the author

Randall Liberty is Maine Commissioner of Corrections. He is responsible for the direction and general administrative supervision, guidance, and planning of both adult and juvenile correctional facilities and programs throughout the state. He has more than forty-three years of leadership experience in the fields of corrections and law enforcement. He previously served as Warden of the Maine State Prison and served for more than twenty-six years in the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, nine of which were as the elected Sheriff. A U.S. Army Iraq War combat veteran, he received the bronze star.Christine Graf is a freelance writer with more than twenty years of experience. Her work has appeared in magazines, newspapers, and textbooks. She is a graduate of Penn State University.
