About the author

Beatrice de Graaf is Distinguished Professor of the History of International Relations and Global Governance at University of Utrecht, Netherlands. In 2018, she was awarded highest academic distinction in the Netherlands, the Stevin Prize. Her 2020 monograph, Fighting Terror after Napoleon: How Europe became Secure after 1815, was awarded the Arenberg Prize for European History in 2022. She is also the author of The Radical Redemption Model: Terrorist Beliefs and Narratives (2025). She is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Academia Europaea.Ozan Ozavci is Associate Professor of Transimperial History at Utrecht University, Netherlands. He is the author of Dangerous Gifts: Imperialism, Security, and Civil Wars in the Levant, 1798-1864 (2021) and Intellectual Origins of the Republic: Ahmet Agaoglu and the Genealogy of Liberalism in Turkey (2015).Erik de Lange is Assistant Professor of Transimperial History at Utrecht University, Netherlands, and co-convenor of the Lausanne Project and the Security History Network. His publications include Dangerous Gifts: Imperialism, Security, and Civil Wars in the Levant, 1798-1864 (2021), and Intellectual Origins of the Republic: Ahmet Agaoglu and the Genealogy of Liberalism in Turkey (2015).
