Sierra de Las Damas is a witness mountain, which for its natural values has been declared a protected area in the category of outstanding natural element; however, its flora and vegetation had not been studied. There are 449 species in this area, belonging to 312 genera and 94 families; of the total, four species are threatened with extinction. There are 42 endemic species of Cuban flora. The best represented botanical families were Fabaceae and Euphorbiaceae. In the vegetation there are three plant formations. The ecological indexes show that the biodiversity is high.
