Forbidden failure is an engaging essay on the condition of the entrepreneur in France, confronted with a system that values success but stigmatizes failure. Through an approach combining sociological analysis, first-hand accounts and international comparisons, the book deconstructs the taboos surrounding entrepreneurial failure. It shows how our legal, fiscal and cultural framework transforms an economic setback into a moral sanction, often at the cost of the mental health and dignity of the managers concerned. In the face of this punitive logic, I propose a humanist approach and concrete ways to build a culture of rebound, along the lines of what exists in the United States, Israel and Singapore. My ambition is to open up a much-needed debate on the place of failure in our society, and to give a voice back to those whom the system forgets as soon as they stumble.
