Once upon a time, there was a ballerina who discovered a new dance: SCHOOL. There, she discovered that teaching and learning are part of the same choreography and that each body/student comes full of ideas and challenges to create. This book is based on my questions as an ART teacher specialising in DANCE in the public school system, where working with dance is a major undertaking. But it also stems from questions raised by other ART teachers (most of whom are not trained in dance and some of whom have no knowledge of this discipline) about HOW to work with dance and CHOREOGRAPHY in school. After some research, I came across some very basic material on the market, some of it even misleading, which not only fails to help teachers but actually hinders them by simply not linking theory to reality. So I thought: Why not bring together dance researchers and teachers and put together a book to help with this? Hands on, bodies in motion, and this fresh study is now available to help teachers from a wide range of backgrounds think about what it means to dance and create choreography at school.
