Pool Malebo (formerly Stanley Pool, sometimes Malebo Pool, Lac Ngobila, Mpumbu, Lac Nkuna or Lac Nkunda) is a lake formed on the lower reaches of the Congo River, 35 kilometers long and 23 kilometers wide. It has a total surface area of around 500 km2. Its average altitude is 272 meters. Its depth varies from three to sixteen meters. At its center is Bamou Island. This island has a surface area of 180 km.The socio-economic development of the Democratic Republic of Congo through ecotourism is strongly linked to this second principle, and this book clearly demonstrates it in all its details, since ecotourism calls for the participation of several players: local populations, states, public and private entities, as well as active international cooperation.
