About the author
Dr. Athar Mahmood is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Agronomy at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Hons.) and Master of Science in Agronomy (Hons.) from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. In 2012, he completed his Ph.D. with a dissertation on "Performance of Sorghum as a Bioenergy Crop for Biogas Production" at Justus Liebig University, Giessen, Germany, under a scholarship sponsored by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad, Pakistan.
In 2016, he completed his postdoctoral research at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Toowoomba, Australia, under the prestigious Endeavour Fellowship Program, sponsored by the Government of Australia. Subsequently, he became a Visiting Academic at the Institute of Agriculture and the Environment, University of Southern Queensland, Australia.
In 2019, Dr. Athar Mahmood completed a fellowship at the Yantai Institute, China Agricultural University (CAU), China, under the Talented Young Scientist Program (TYSP), awarded by the Government of China.
He has published more than 180 peer-reviewed research and review articles, as well as book chapters. He has also served as a reviewer for well-reputed journals published by Springer and Elsevier.
Dr. Muhammad Mansoor Javaid is an Associate Professor of Agronomy at the University of Sargodha, Pakistan. He has been serving in this role since 2021, contributing significantly to teaching, research, and academic leadership. He joined the University of Sargodha in 2012 as an Assistant Professor and has played an active role in advancing agronomic research and education.
Dr. Javaid earned his Ph.D. in Agronomy from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. He completed his master's and bachelor's degrees at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan. His outstanding academic performance was recognized when he was awarded a prestigious gold medal for securing the first position in his master's degree.
His dedication to research and innovation led him to receive the highly competitive Endeavour Award from the Australian government for a postdoctoral fellowship. He successfully completed his postdoctoral research at Federation University, Australia. Additionally, he undertook a six-month fellowship at the University of Florida, Department of Horticultural Sciences, in Gainesville, USA, further expanding his expertise in agricultural sciences.
Dr. Javaid has an extensive research background, having authored more than 135 peer-reviewed research articles and multiple book chapters. His research interests focus on agronomy, weed science, allelopathy, dryland agriculture, and stress physiology. His contributions have been widely recognized, and he continues to play a vital role in advancing knowledge in these fields.
As a dedicated mentor, Dr. Javaid has supervised 34 postgraduate students as either a supervisor or co-supervisor, guiding them in their research and academic growth. His commitment to scientific research is evident in the successful acquisition of research grants for eight projects funded by both national and international agencies.
Dr. Javaid actively participates in national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops, contributing to the global exchange of agricultural knowledge. He has collaborated with renowned institutions such as Lanzhou University, China, through the Pak-China Joint Research Center for Dryland Agroecology, where he represented Pakistan in international research projects.
His leadership extends to academic administration, as he serves as a member of the Board of Faculty of Agriculture and the Board of Studies in the Department of Agronomy at the University of Sargodha. His involvement in these roles ensures the development of updated and relevant curricula that align with modern agricultural advancements.
Dr. Javaid has also played a significant role in shaping research strategies, guiding students and fellow researchers toward solutions for critical agricultural challenges. Dr. Muhammad Ather Nadeem is a distinguished Professor of Agronomy at the University of Sargodha, Pakistan. He earned his Ph.D. in Agronomy from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan, in 2006. To further enhance his expertise, he pursued postdoctoral research in Weed Science at the University of Arkansas, USA, through a prestigious Fulbright Fellowship from 2012 to 2013.
Dr. Nadeem's academic journey is marked by remarkable achievements in both teaching and research. With over 50 M.Phil. theses and seven Ph.D. dissertations under his supervision, Dr. Nadeem has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of agronomy in Pakistan. His extensive research on weed management, herbicide resistance, and sustainable agricultural practices has earned him recognition in global agricultural research communities.
As a dedicated educator, Dr. Nadeem has contributed significantly to the academic landscape by teaching various undergraduate and graduate-level courses in Agronomy at both the University of Sargodha and the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. His passion for fostering young talent is evident from his supervision of numerous M.Sc. and Ph.D. students, many of whom have gone on to make their own contributions to the field.
Dr. Nadeem's academic excellence has been acknowledged through several awards, including a Research Productivity Award in 2012 and the honor of being named a Fulbright Fellow. His extensive body of work has been published in high-impact journals, and he has actively participated as an editor for various prestigious academic journals. His editorial roles further emphasize his leadership and influence in the scientific community.
In addition to his academic contributions, Dr. Nadeem has taken on several leadership roles within his institution. He served as the Principal of the College of Agriculture at the University of Sargodha from 2019 to 2022 and currently holds the position of Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture. As the Chairman of the Department of Agronomy, he has made significant contributions to the development of the department, further enhancing its reputation both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Nadeem has been a member of several important academic bodies, including the Academic Council of the University of Sargodha, and has served on various committees focused on curriculum development, student welfare, and research funding. His leadership has greatly influenced the university's strategic direction in research and academic excellence.
