Poetry for Teachers - By a Teacher

There's a poet inside every person but it needs to be encouraged.

Poetry can be expressed in a variety of ways. You notice it right away in a variety of genres. For the high-achieving student or troubled student, poetry can bring the best features in a child. I encourage all teachers to have their students write their own poems and share them aloud. You will build camaraderie in your classroom, and your students will have a new appreciation for writing.

Brian Taylor has great memories of doing poetry with his students at Garrison and Stuart Mesa Elementary School. Brian has been an elementary school teacher in the Oceanside UNIFIED School District for 30 years. He lives in Oceanside, CA.
