The general objective of this research was to map and analyze the theme of educational evaluation in national scientific journals on education available online, evaluated by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) in 2012 as "A1", between 2001 and 2012. The study was carried out using qualitative research, a survey and bibliographic analysis. Scientific articles on education were selected according to the descriptors: basic education, evaluation and assessment. The research was restricted to the evaluation of basic education, excluding higher education, as it sought to highlight academic production at this stage of education and make the analysis more specific in terms of the topics published within the theme. A total of 94 articles were selected and three sub-themes were identified: Learning Assessment, Institutional Assessment and External Assessment. The academic community showed great interest in the External Evaluation sub-theme, with approximately 60.63% of the total number of articles.
