The book Succession and Corporate Governance in Third Sector Organisations aims to answer the research questions 'how does the succession of chief executives occur in non-governmental organisations?' and 'why is one person chosen for governance and not another?'. The question of succession in general has been addressed extensively in world literature, but there have been few publications on succession in the upper echelons of corporate governance in third sector organisations. The text begins with a wide-ranging survey of the scientific literature on the subject of succession, which can begin with the retirement of executives from organisations and go on to the reasons for their removal due to cases of corruption and financial misappropriation, which are such common themes these days that they flood the news in the media in general. This is followed by a discussion of the principles and good practices of Corporate Governance as advocated by renowned national and international institutes specialising in the subject. Finally, the subject is concluded with a case study of two third sector organisations operating in the city of São Paulo.
