Der Heimatbegriff, wie er im Deutschen verstanden wird, ist eng mit nationalen Vorstellungen verbunden. Erst eine Entnationalisierung des Begriffs ermöglicht es, ihn historisch zu kontextualisieren, als Prozess zu betrachten und zu einem Alltagsphänomen zu machen. Heimat hat mit unseren Lebensgeschichten und aktuellen Lebenswirklichkeiten zu tun und lässt sich über Orte, Menschen und soziale Praktiken bestimmen. Um Heimat zu verstehen, muss man sich daher zuerst selbst erforschen. Die Beiträger*innen eröffnen durch die Begriffe »mehrheimisch« und »weltheimisch« andere Denkweisen und entwerfen eine neue Kartographie des Möglichen.
