This book presents the proceedings of the 8th EAI International Conference on Robotics and Networks 2024 (EAI ROSENET 2024). The conference explores the integration of networks, communications, and robotic technologies, which has become a topic of increasing interest for both researchers and developers from academic fields and industries worldwide. The authors posit that big networks will be the main approach to the next generation of robotic research, with the explosive number of communications and networks models and increasing computational power of computers significantly extending the number of potential applications for robotic technologies while also bringing new challenges to the communications and networking community. The conference provided a platform for researchers to share up-to-date scientific achievements in this field.

About the author

Behçet Uğur Töreyin received the B.S. degree from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkiye, in 2001, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Bilkent University, Ankara, in 2003 and 2009, respectively, all in electrical and electronics engineering.He is currently a Full professor with the Informatics Institute, Istanbul Technical University. His research focuses on signal processing and pattern recognition, particularly in applications related to image analysis and computational intelligence. He is also dedicated to developing algorithms for analyzing and compressing signals from a variety of sensors, including visible, infrared, and hyperspectral cameras, microphones, passive infrared sensors, vibration sensors, and spectrum sensors used in wireless communications.
Hatice Köse (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree from the Computer Engineering Department, Bogaziçi University, Turkey. She has been a Full Professor with the Department of AI and Data Engineering, Faculty of Computer and Informatics Engineering, Istanbul Technical University, Turkey, coordinating the Game Laboratory and Cognitive Social Robotics Laboratory, since 2010. From 2006 to 2010, she was a Research Fellow with the University of Hertfordshire. Her current research interests include gesture communication (involving sign language) and imitation-based interaction games with social humanoid robots for the education and rehabilitation of children with hearing impairment and children with ASD. She is leading several national projects and taking part in several Horizon2020 projects, Erasmus+ and Cost actions, on social assistive robots, sign language tutoring robots, and human–robot interaction.
Prof. Nizamettin Aydin (Senior Member, IEEE) received B.Sc. (1984) and M.Sc. (1987) degrees in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at Yildiz Technical University, Turkiye, and Ph.D. degree in Medical Physics (1994) at the University of Leicester, UK. He worked in the Department of Clinical Neuroscionces at Kings College London and the Division of Clinical Neuroscience at St George’s Hospital Medical School as a Research Fellow between 1998 and 2001. He was a Senior Research Fellow in the Institute for Integrated Micro and Nano Systems at the University of Edinburgh from 2001 to 2004. In 2004, he was appointed as head of Computer Engineering Department and in 2006 he founded Software Engineering Department, both at Bahcesehir University, Turkiye. Between 2009 and 2023, he was professor in Computer Engineering Department at Yildiz Technical University and served as the head of the department between 2011 and 2023. He is now with the Computer Engineering Department at Istanbul Technical University. His research interests and contributions cover a wide range of subkects including biomedical signal/image processing, bioinformatics, system-on-chip, AI, data science, and computer science. He was awarded the IEE the Institute Premium Award for 2000/2001 for his contributions in coplex wavelet transform for processing Doppler ultrasound signals. He is a senior member of IEEE and serves as the IEEE Turkiye Section Chair.
Seifedine Nimer Kadry (Senior Member, IEEE) has a Bachelor degree in 1999 from Lebanese University, MS degree in 2002 from Reims University (France) and EPFL (Lausanne), PhD in 2007 from Blaise Pascal University (France), HDR degree in 2017 from Rouen University. At present his research focuses on Data Science, education using technology, system prognostics, stochastic systems, and applied mathematics. He is currently working as a Full Professor of data science at Lebanese American University in Lebanon and Noroff University College in Norway. He is an ABET program evaluator for computing, and ABET program evaluator for Engineering Tech. He is a Fellow of IET, Fellow of IETE, and Fellow of IACSIT. He is a Distinguished Visitor of IEEE Computer Society. He has served in the Editorial Board of numerous journals in several publishers including IEEE, Elsevier, Springer, etc while he has been editor of several books. He has taken various roles in the organization committee in numerous conferences. He has 1000+ publications which has more than 22,000 citations with h-index of 69.
Ömer Melih Gül (Senior Member, IEEE) received BSc., MSc., and PhD. degrees from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2012, 2014, and 2020, respectively by also working as a research assistant at the same department. His research interests include AI/machine learning applications, wireless security, networking, scheduling, IoT, UAV, robotics, and blockchain. He has co-authored over 50 papers and 5 book chapters. He was awarded third place in the 2019 Lance Stafford Larson Outstanding Student Paper Award by the IEEE Computer Society. He was also awarded third place in the poster competition at 2021 IEEE Rising Stars Global Conference. In 2022, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at University of Ottawa, Canada. He received best paper award at 48th Wireless World Research Forum in 2022. In 2023, he worked as Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Bahcesehir University, Istanbul, Turkey, where he supervised 5 MSc theses. Since March 2024, he has been working as an associate professor in the Informatics Institute at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Istanbul, Turkey, where he is currently supervising 1 PhD and 4 MSc students.
