About the author

Christian Raffensperger holds the Kenneth E. Wray Chair in the Humanities at Wittenberg University, where he is also a professor and chair of the History Department. His academic work focuses on building a medieval Europe which is inclusive of the totality of the continent, not just the medieval West. This began with integrating the kingdom of Rus into Europe in his initial publication, Reimagining Europe: Kievan Rus in Medieval Europe (2012) and has continued through numerous books and articles, including his most recent book, Rulers and Rulership in the Arc of Medieval Europe (Routledge, 2023).
Florin Curta is Professor of Medieval History and Archaeology at the University of Florida. His books include Southeastern Europe in the Middle Ages (2006) and Eastern Europe in the Middle Ages, 500-1300 (2019). He is also the editor of several collections of studies and of a reader entitled Medieval Eastern Europe, 500-1300 (2024). Curta is the editor of the Brill online Bibliography of the History and Archaeology of Eastern Europe in the Middle Ages and co-editor of the Brill series "East Central and Eastern Europe in the Middle Ages, 450-1450."
