Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the world, most of which could be avoided with preventative measures and medication. Systemic arterial hypertension is one of these diseases and is considered a major risk factor for cardiac and cerebrovascular complications, which are all too prevalent. For drug therapy, the use of drugs included in one of six therapeutic classes is suggested. Among these classes, thiazide diuretics are widely used, but pharmacological treatment can be jeopardised due to the quality of the drugs, thus directly interfering with efficacy and safety, as the stability of the drug can be altered.
