Sustainability is currently a decisive factor in guaranteeing the efficiency of Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSSs) in various areas: social, economic, environmental and cultural. In view of the enormous difficulties the state has experienced in ensuring social coverage, sustainable development in the IPSS is a fundamental commitment for the future and a path that institutions must follow in order to find innovative solutions to the social and economic challenges and problems that arise on a daily basis. This research focuses on the dynamics of IPSSs supporting the elderly, in terms of the potential and obstacles to their sustainability. It also seeks to assess the capacity of support programs and measures to respond to the needs of these institutions. This study is structured as follows: a theoretical framework, consisting of a literature review, which provided contributions to a theoretical framework that located reflections on the themes of ageing, IPSSs, sustainability and support programs and measures for the elderly; and an empirical study which used qualitative analysis as its methodological approach.
