This book is the result of around four years of research into the various social, cultural and environmental processes that have involved and mitigated the discussions about the implementation of the project to integrate the São Francisco River Basin and the Northern Northeast, popularly known as the "transposition of the Old Chico". Among the many aspects that mark the book, we highlight those focused on the perception of how the inhabitants of the São Francisco River (donor basin), from its source in Minas Gerais to its mouth in Alagoas, and the inhabitants of the Northern Northeast (recipient basin) had their identities discursively constructed by two dichotomous groups: favorable and unfavorable to the transposition. Critical discourse analysis will show how both groups construct the identity of these inhabitants in order to justify their ideological and discursive positions. In addition, an important socio-environmental reflection is raised, especially in relation to the impacts of the project and the various factors inevitably related to it.
