Ever since film adaptations first appeared on the scene, the question that automatically and inevitably arises when comparing novels and films is the question of fidelity. And since it is inevitable to dispense with this question, this thesis will attempt to answer it with a different nuance. Thus, the aim of this study is to prove or disprove the idea that a film adaptation is not born solely from a novel, but that it also finds life and inspiration in the identity of the film production, i.e., among other things, the identity of its director, his ideology, his point of view, his personal experience, and according to the intimate link that unites him to the author and the novel. For this study, we propose two French-language Maghrebian novels, both of which have the particularity of being adapted to film by directors deeply attached to the story they tell.
