This book brings together a comprehensive overview of gender and energy to provide an invaluable resource for researchers and practitioners. It addresses how energy access at the individual/household/community level is gendered in terms of decision making and where and how benefits accrue. At the institutional level it examines the role women play in the sector and the barriers they have to overcome to participate. At the policy level experiences with mainstreaming gender into energy policy are discussed. The book provides examples from both the Global South and the Global North and is set in the context of the energy transition. About the author
Joy Clancy is Professor Emeritus of Energy and Gender, the Department of Governance and Technology for Sustainability (CSTM), University of Twente, The Netherlands. She has a PhD in Engineering (alternative fuels for small stationary engines). Joy’s research has focused, for more than 30 years, on the social dimension of energy systems in which gender has been an important factor addressed, initially in the Global South, and more recently in the Global North. She can be credited with establishing gender and energy as a research field. Joy is a founder member of ENERGIA, the international network on Gender and Sustainable Energy.
