This book brings together epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic information on sporotrichosis, a zoonotic fungal disease that affects humans and domestic animals, especially felines and canines. Of public health importance, sporotrichosis has been recognized as one of the most difficult mycoses to control in human and veterinary medicine, due to the proven antifungal resistance of the etiological agents of this disease. The urgent need to find new antifungal molecules for the treatment of sporotrichosis is recognized, and medicinal plants are increasingly being studied as sources of bioactive compounds. This book addresses the future prospects for the treatment of sporotrichosis in canines and felines, with an emphasis on the bioprospecting of medicinal plants.
