Climate Change and Mango Production - Potential Adaptation and Mitigation Options
English · Hardback
Will be released 26.05.2025
Description
The significance of the climate change and their impacts on fruit crops, their problems, and their solutions determine the need for a book in agriculture. So, firstly we are going to talk about the importance of climate change and the shift of the climate due to various reasons. Similarly, king of fruits (mango) is also facing various issues due to climate change and the most important problems which are causing serious constraints to mango production are Mango sudden decline and mango malformation. These problems have emerged in orchards since the issue of climate change is increasing day by day and currently there is no mango orchard free from these diseases and leading to very low production of the crop with respect to previous years. Similarly climate change has also raised the issue of unseen pathogens in the mango orchards posing serious challenges to mango production due to new diseases and stresses. The main drivers behind the writing of this book is that this book will disseminate a plethora of knowledge on how to deal smartly with the mango orchards in changing climate to obtain good yield and to maintain good health status.

Syed Atif Hasan Naqvi currently serves as a lecturer in Plant Pathology at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan. With 14 years of extensive research experience and 7 years in academia, Dr. Naqvi is a recognized mango pathology and cultivation authority. His career began at the Mango Research Station Multan, followed by a pivotal role at the Mango Research Institute Multan, where he contributed significantly to advancing mango research and extension services. As a dedicated mango consultant, Dr. Naqvi has explored nearly every facet of mango pathology and agronomic practices, developing sustainable strategies for managing diseases and enhancing productivity. His work as an extension plant pathologist has been instrumental in providing voluntary guidance to mango farmers, helping them address critical challenges through innovative solutions. Since joining Bahauddin Zakariya University in 2017, Dr. Naqvi has spearheaded three research projects on mango cultivation.
Prof. Dr. Shakeel Ahmad is a professor of Agronomy at the Institute of Agronomy (IOA), Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, Pakistan. In 2006, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. Later, he completed his postdoctoral research from the University of Georgia, USA. He joined as a lecturer in the Department of Agronomy, Bahauddin Zakariya University, in October 2002. He was promoted to Professor in 2016. He has been devoting himself in teaching and researching the field of arable crops, especially focused on crop modeling, climate change impact assessment, and adaptation strategies. He has published over 200 articles and 150 book chapters. His publications received over 7500 citations with an h-index of 50 (according to Scopus). He is an editor and reviewer of many peer-reviewed international journals. He is also an active and life member of professional societies like Pakistan Society of Agronomy and Pakistan Botanical Society.
Mukhtar Ahmed has been involved in teaching and research since 2005. His research focuses on the impact of climate change on crop ecology, crop physiology, cropping system, and rain-fed ecosystem management. During his Ph.D. and visit to Sydney University, Australia, he worked on the application of APSIM as a decision support tool and rainfall forecasting using generalized additive models. He was awarded a young scientist fellowship by APCC South Korea. He also won a research productivity award from Pakistan Council of Science and Technology (PCST) and a Publons reviewer award in 2018 and 2019. He was part of the Regional Approaches for Climate Change (REACCH) project in the USA, which developed multi-model ensemble approaches to minimize the uncertainties. He is involved in the use of statistical and dynamic models as risk management tools to mitigate the challenges of climate change.
