Steel corrosion can be significantly influenced by various metallurgical factors. This book focuses majorly on metallurgical intrinsic factors that influence corrosion. It systematically analyzes the latest advances in the mechanism of steel corrosion induced by various metallurgical intrinsic features of steel to support the development of corrosion-resistant steels. It discusses how several typical metallurgical factors such as inclusion control, alloying control, and heat treatment control influence the corrosion resistance of stainless or low alloy steels. This book strongly supports metallurgical and materials researchers and engineers in developing new corrosion-resistant steels.

About the author

Chao Liu is an associate professor at the Institute of New Materials Technology, University of Science and Technology Beijing, China. After obtaining his PhD degree from the University of Science and Technology Beijing, he stayed at the university as a teacher and visited VUB in Brussels, Belgium, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States successively. Based on the major national strategies and the practical needs of material corrosion protection, he has been carrying out research work on the theory and application of the frontiers of micro-zone electrochemical technology for localized corrosion of materials, the theory and technology of corrosion big data, and the research and development of corrosion-resistant new materials.

Xiaogang Li is a professor at the Institute of New Materials Technology, University of Science and Technology Beijing, China. He has long been engaged in the research of material corrosion theory and the development of corrosion-resistant new steel grades and is one of the discipline leaders in this field in China. Aiming at the bottleneck problems of low corrosion resistance of low alloy structural steel and the urgent need to improve the performance of traditional weathering steel in China, he has put forward a new theory on the regulation of the whole process of metallurgical preparation of low alloy steel corrosion resistance based on the systematic obtaining of the mechanism and law of the influence of the alloy composition and metallurgical process parameter on the environmental corrosion origins and evolutions of low alloy steel; he has invented a complete set of new technology of the metallurgical process regulation of the corrosion-resistant steel and series of corrosion-resistant steel varieties.
