About the author

George Darling (1905-1985), was a journalist and became industrial correspondent for the BBC reporting team from 1942 to 1949. He was MP for Sheffield Hillsborough from 1950 to 1974, becoming a life peer (Baron Darling of Hillsborough) when he stood down.
