About the author

Dr. Cheryl Thompson, DNP, RN, PHCNS-BC, is a nursing educator, researcher, and consultant with over four decades of experience in the field. After beginning her career in ICU, home health, and nursing leadership, Dr. Thompson transitioned to academia in 1992, joining York College of Pennsylvania where she eventually retired as a Professor from the Donald E. and Lois J. Myers School of Nursing and Health Professions.
Throughout her academic career, Dr. Thompson has made significant contributions to nursing education and research. She developed and directed Nurse Managed Wellness Centers, created international study abroad opportunities, and led initiatives to improve NCLEX readiness outcomes. Her teaching experience spans bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, with a focus on community health, population health, and critical thinking in nursing.
Dr. Thompson’s work covers a wide range of topics, including NCLEX success strategies, curriculum strategies for improved student outcomes, nurse-managed care outcomes, international study abroad experiences, and innovative teaching pedagogies. Notable publications include evaluations of critical thinking courses and faculty coaching for NCLEX-RN success, as well as strategies for supporting graduate nurses who experience NCLEX failure.
As owner of Cheryl Thompson Consulting, LLC, she provides solutions for NCLEX success, coaching individuals and consulting with nursing schools and healthcare organizations. Dr. Thompson has been recognized with awards for innovations in nursing education and maintains certification as a Community/Public Health Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Her career exemplifies a dedication to advancing nursing education, improving student outcomes, and bridging the gap between academic preparation and professional practice.
