The study addresses the Perception and Acceptability of Flood Risk in the Lower Ricatla District of Marracuene in urban and suburban communities, focusing on the lower Ricatla in Marracuene, affected by flooding caused by torrential rains. Despite the risks, many families still live in the lowlands. The research investigated the perception and acceptance of flood risk, considering socio-economic, housing and environmental factors. Using mixed methodology, 100 families and key informants were interviewed, in addition to a literature review and direct observation. The results show a young population, predominantly male, with a low level of education and precarious housing conditions. Most of the houses are made of fragile materials such as wood and zinc, making them vulnerable. Basic services, such as water and health, are limited. Although 82% of residents have already faced floods and 44% rate the risk as high, many accept floods as inevitable or as an economic opportunity. It recommends resettling in safe areas, creating public spaces in unoccupied areas, reforestation and the development of sustainable projects.
