This book presents the results of a study whose aim was to find out whether there was an occurrence of adaptive ineffectiveness among first-year nursing students and in which adaptive areas there were inadequacies and whether there were students in an adaptive crisis. The study covered first-year nursing students at a particular college in Minas Gerais. The instruments used for this research were: the Escola Paulista de Medicina Questionnaire, as a screening instrument; the preventive clinical interview; and the Operationalised Adaptive Diagnostic Scale - EDAO. The study showed that it is essential for preventive research to take place at the earliest stage, in this case at the beginning of the first year.
