For Michel Foucault, the aesthetics of existence is necessarily linked to the idea of freedom and resistance. Composing a beautiful life would therefore mean resisting the strategies of the knowledge/power relationship. This book is the beginning of a vast field of analyses by the French philosopher. Greco-Roman culture becomes an important historical moment in terms of the diversity of practices of the self that would later be modified by Christianity and Cartesian philosophy. It is important to emphasise that this is not, as the philosopher himself warned us, an eulogy or an attempt to rescue Greco-Roman culture, but that we can learn from this historical moment in some way. This book can contribute to both philosophy students and those who are beginning their studies of Michel Foucault's thought.
