Combining the latest neurological research and up-to-date psychoanalytic theory, Dreams and Dream Interpretation: A Contemporary Introduction gives readers a clear understanding of dreams, dream work and the ever-changing interpretations of this extraordinary phenomenon.
In this book, Christian Roesler brings together an overview of the development of different theories of dreaming and dream interpretation throughout the history of psychoanalysis, from Freud's seminal papers to contemporary approaches. He provides a thorough outline of empirical dream research and shows the reader how they can be integrated in both therapeutic and theoretical work. Throughout, he illustrates his ideas with solid case studies from his own work. Providing a comprehensive yet impartial perspective on the different theories of dream interpretation, the function of dreams and their use as a tool to mine the depths of the unconscious, this book is a vital step in the development of psychoanalytic dream work.
Part of the Routledge Introductions to Contemporary Psychoanalysis series, this book is a vital resource for psychoanalysts, psychologists and psychodynamic psychotherapists, as well as those undertaking psychotherapeutic training. Students and scholars of psychology, psychiatry, anthropology and medicine will gain a thorough understanding of dreams and the inner psyche.
