The general objective of this research was to: To explain the processes of mediation of the subject's television discourse in Maracaibo (Zulia state-Venezuela). We worked with subjects from the popular sectors of the city. We considered the instances of mediation present in the use of journalistic or informative, advertising and entertainment discourse, contrasting the analysis based on the participation or not in community organizations. The study is framed within the framework of Latin American critical epistemology. It used qualitative methodology, specifically group discussions, six were applied in three parishes of the city of Maracaibo (Francisco Eugenio Bustamante, Idelfonso Vásquez and Santa Lucía). Among the main results, the following stand outthat the political-ideological instances appear in the mediation processes and define not only the reception but also how it is used in daily life; the subjects who are part of the Communal Councils tend to use television mainly for information and the opinion programs for documentation; while those who do not participate demand entertainment from television.
