This book is aimed at educators and others interested in the topic of initial and continuing training for university teachers. From a social-historical perspective, we take pedagogical practice as our basis and start from the assumption that human action is endowed with personal meanings and senses, within a dynamic context in which elements of the personal and professional history of teachers who are seeking training are articulated. What we are investigating here is whether teachers in higher education are seeking appropriate training for their profession. We will reflect on the way in which their professional training takes place and its direct impact on improving the quality of higher education. Linking teacher training to the improvement of university teaching leads us to think that the identity of the education professional can only be conceived from the link with the meaning of social practice, so that this educator, throughout their training, needs to recognise themselves from their insertion in the society to which they belong.
