Belt Lines

Belt Lines is Lee Butler's 155-poem tribute to the Beltline, a 22-mile-long loop path that tracks a former railroad route that has become one of Atlanta's most popular and welcoming outdoor attractions. Writing one more poem than the number of sonnets that Shakespeare composed, Lee has made Belt Lines a compelling poetic celebration, full of stunning word-pictures of the people, vistas and atmosphere that make the Beltline unique in Atlanta, and within America as a whole.

About the author

Lee Butler was inspired to write Belt Lines upon being introduced to the Beltline, a 22-mile loop path encircling Atlanta, Georgia that retraces a former railway corridor. She quickly became enamored of the site, and paid tribute to it by spending two hours each Saturday on the Beltline's Eastside Trail reciting a new poem about the Beltline's people, natural beauty, artwork and architecture. The result is 155 poems over the course of many years.
