Kansas City's rapid growth and modernization have led to the neglect of its historic spaces, which remain hidden gems reflecting the city's diverse past.Kansas City has become a city on a fast uprise. Progression towards the future, paralleled with the local booming population, has created a demand for further development of residential and working spaces; however, even with all the progression of an ever-growing city, many places are either neglected or overshadowed by city-wide improvements. "The old" becomes overlooked for fresh spaces and modernized amenities. Unnoticed, they become secrets in plain sight. No matter the outcomes of these places, they all once represented different stations of life in Kansas City.
About the author
Regina Daniel specializes in urban exploration photography. She is also the owner and operator of Red Vixen Photography. Covering much of the Kansas City area and surrounding vicinities, she has gone on to travel through seven states in the Midwest doing her abandoned photography. What started as curiosity for the abandonment has turned into documenting the forgotten or lesser-known history lessons and photographing what has stood the test of time. That change from curiosity to preservation led her to write the Abandoned Kansas City book series, Abandoned Eastern Kansas, and Abandoned Pitcher, Oklahoma.
