Polyphenoloxidase (PPO, EC 1.14.18.1) gehört zu einer Unterklasse von Enzymen, die als Tyrosinasen bekannt sind und die o-Hydroxylierung von Monophenolen (Phenolmoleküle, bei denen der Benzolring einen einzelnen Hydroxylsubstituenten enthält) zu o-Diphenolen (Phenolmoleküle, die zwei Hydroxylsubstituenten enthalten) und anschließend zu o-Chinonen katalysieren. Bei der Reaktion reagiert ein Kupferion mit molekularem Sauerstoff und bildet ein Zwischenprodukt, das auf Monophenol und Diphenol einwirkt.

Sikander Ali, professore associato di biotecnologia, ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca presso l'Università del Punjab, Lahore, nel campo della botanica (biotecnologia) nel 2005. Ha svolto il suo pre-dottorato presso la SIUC, negli Stati Uniti, nell'ambito del programma Fulbright. Ha svolto il suo post-dottorato presso l'ANU, Canberra, Australia, nell'ambito del premio Endeavor. Dal 2002 è membro permanente della facoltà di GCU Lahore.
