Andrea Chénier is a verismo opera by Umberto Giordano, set against the backdrop of the French Revolution. The story follows the tragic fate of the real-life poet Andrea Chénier, who falls in love with the noblewoman Maddalena di Coigny. As political tensions rise, their romance faces betrayal, passion, and ultimate sacrifice. Giordano's powerful score, paired with the intense emotions of revolution and love, make this opera a dramatic and moving masterpiece.
Umberto Menotti Maria Giordano (1867-1948) was an Italian composer, mainly of operas, best known for his opera based on the life of the French poet, André Chénier.
