About the author

Yaning Zhang is Assistant Professor of International Politics at the School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University in Shanghai. He received his PhD from Freie Universität Berlin. Previously, he was a research affiliate at the Berlin Graduate School for Global and Transnational Studies and an associate research fellow at the Jacques Delors Centre in Berlin. He holds Master's degrees from the College of Europe (Bruges) and Sciences Po (Paris).

Summary

This book explores the enforcement of EU law by the European Commission. It draws on four case studies to demonstrate that the Commission's strategic enforcement is not driven by a singular or merely egocentric logic but by different configurations of divergent enforcement incentives.
