Nick's Christmases used to be filled with love and joy, song and light. With his little mouse family, they did not have much, but they had each other. Until the day his little brother was attacked by Rufus the cat, and he lost his family to mouse traps. Now all on his own, Nick learns just how despised a little mouse can be. Humans and other animals alike fear them or eat them.
With his Christmas joy gone, and his search for a new home continuing, Nick meets Jason, a kind-hearted boy who accepts Nick as the mouse he his and brings him home. Nick and Jason become the best of friends, but Nick still feels a calling to see if anyone in his family survived.
