Né au Liban, Alfred Basbous (1924-2006) a réalisé des sculptures d'une grande diversité. De par son expérimentation constante des matériaux et des formes, il a su s'ériger en véritable pionnier du modernisme et bénéficier d'une reconnaissance à l'international et notamment en France. Évoluant entre figuration et abstraction, ses oeuvres peuvent être contemplées à Rachana, où sa maison-atelier et son jardin, devenus à présent la Fondation Alfred Basbous, offrent un cadre idyllique propice à l'étude de l'un des grands sculpteurs modernes.
Born in Lebanon, Alfred Basbous (1924-2006) created highly diverse sculptures. By his constant experimentation of materials and forms, he was able to establish himself as a true pioneer of modernism and gained international recognition, particularly in France. Evolving between figuration and abstraction, his works can be admired in Rachana, where his residence-studio and garden, now the Alfred Basbous Foundation, offer an idyllic setting for the study of one of the great modern sculptors.
