The Handbook of English for Specific Purposes, Second Edition presents a state-of-the-art survey of research in this rapidly growing field, offering diverse perspectives on the challenges faced in helping students develop competence in English for specific contexts of use. Original essays by an international team of scholars address all major aspects of ESP, including speaking, reading, writing, legal and academic English, nursing, multimodality, intercultural rhetoric, English as a lingua franca, and ethnography. This fully revised edition incorporates new areas of ESP research and addresses changing demands on English Language Learners (ELLs), featuring entirely new chapters on identity and ESP research, call center communication, Global Englishes, translanguaging and multiliteracies, and the emergence of new digital genres. Featuring in-depth reviews of the most recent findings in ESP research, The Handbook of English for Specific Purposes, Second Edition, is an essential resource for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students, scholars, researchers, and educators working in TESOL, ELL/ELT, applied linguistics, and language studies.
