The study was carried out in Department of Biochemistry and Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pt. B.D. Sharma PGIMS, Rohtak, India. Serum IL-6, TNF- and TGF-beta levels were analyzed in serum and cord blood of 20 normotensive pregnant (group I) and 20 pregnant women with preeclampsia (group II). Findings of high Serum IL-6, TNF- and TGF-beta in preeclamptic women (both in maternal and cord blood) suggest a definite role of inflammatory response in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia and therefore, may be useful in diagnosing patients with preeclampsia and identifying future cardiovascular risk. There may be a place of anti-inflammatory agents in management of preeclampsia.
