Deborah Hopkinson is the author of numerous award-winning books for children, including Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt, winner of the International Reading Association Award, A Band of Angels, winner of the Golden Kite Award, Under the Quilt of Night, winner of the Washington State Book Award, Girl Wonder, winner of the Great Lakes Book Award and a Jane Addams Peace Award Honor Book, and Shutting out the Sky, an NCTE Orbis Pictus Honor Book, a Jane Addams Peace Award Honor Book, and a James Madison Book Award Honor. Deborah Hopkinson lives in Corvallis, Oregon, where she serves as director of foundation relations for the Oregon State University Foundation.
