The new edition of the "Collected Works of Fang Zheng" includes more than 270 articles in two volumes. Volume I consists of her essays on various topics, for example, social issues, love, marriage, education, and health. Mostly originally published in the 1940s, Ms. Zheng's writing was passionate, humorous, or sarcastic. Many of her works focused on ordinary people's daily life. Some translated articles are also included in this volume, through which Fang shared perspectives from overseas with readers in China. She also advocated for changes in women's social status through her works when being a good wife and mother was considered the most important duty for women during the Republic of China. She provided suggestions for women on love, marriage, and family life, and offered fresh insights into women's roles and social status.

About the author
Ms. Fang ZHENG was a prolific writer during the Republic of China. Fang (1910-1961) was born in Wujiang, Jiangsu. She showed her literary talent at an early age and was appreciated by her uncle Yazi LIU, a well-known Chinese poet and political activist. In 1930, Fang studied in the Foreign Languages Department of the School of Liberal Arts of Yenching University. In 1933, Fang was married to Dr. Xiangeng ZHOU, a famous professor in psychology of Tsinghua University. Fang began writing for newspapers in 1944 in Kunming where her husband, Dr. Zhou, taught at the National Southwest Associated University. She served as editor-in-chief of the "Women's Literature and Art" column of the "Central Daily News" and the "Women and Family" column of the "Peking Times". Fang also wrote columns for many newspapers and magazines in Kunming, Peking and Tianjin. Her works are rich in content and diverse in genre.
