Chagas disease (CD) is one of the consequences of human infection by the flagellated protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi. The cardiac form is the most serious presentation of the disease, with the possibility of sudden death, arrhythmias, apical lesions, heart failure and thromboembolism. The main aim of this study was to identify the incidence of cardiac dysfunctions resulting from CD in patients treated at the outpatient clinic of a reference hospital for the treatment of infectious diseases in the Amazon in 2015. This year, there was a higher prevalence of cardiac dysfunctions. These pathologies are often associated with CD due to the tropism of the etiological agent by myocardial cells. The main contamination mechanism was oral contamination, possibly due to the consumption of açaí.
