About the author


Yu Hui is the first musicologist to be honored as a Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor by the Chinese Ministry of Education, the highest academic accolade in the social sciences and humanities in China. He currently serves as a distinguished professor at Nanjing Normal University and Yunnan University, and as a Chair Professor at Xiamen University. Dr. Yu received his Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University in 2000. He has authored numerous works on ethnomusicology, digital musicology, traditional Chinese music practices, and ancient Chinese music theories, published in Chinese, English, and Russian by Oxford University Press, Routledge, Peter Lang, Springer-Nature, Moscow State University Press, and Zhejiang University Press. He is the co-president of the Council for Asian Musicology, co-editor of the international journal
 Asian Musicology
, and a steering committee member of the East Asian Association of the International Musicological Society. Dr. Yu is also a fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.
