This book was born out of the need to think about deafness and the deaf person. As explained throughout the book, although the words deaf and deafness seem synonymous, they are not. And this, a priori, is already a moral problem that needs to be questioned. Due to the need for this approach, its problematisation emerges on the academic scene. That's the point: to problematise two words that, over time, have become and circulate as synonyms, but are not. However, the question remains: why is there a need to naturalise "deafness" as a means of identifying deaf people? What is behind the biopolitical game that has turned both words into means for systemic groupings in the deaf community? Deafness is a word/concept that is in the territory of biocapital. However, it is important to realise that these are not unpublished texts because the book is based on two articles that were published in previous years. Although they are both from previous years, their themes are still current due to the slowness with which things evolve. That's why, after an update, both texts are current. So have a good read!
