Grief is a unique journey, one which can feel so lonely. Whilst there are no words to truly ease the pain, poetry can be the clue to the fact that someone, somewhere has experienced similar emotions and feelings although never truly the same. Words can help the reader to identify with the words of others and in turn feel that little bit less alone. Some of the words written and expressed through poetry are those that feel too difficult to talk about during the grief journey. Reading words on paper or hearing them read aloud is a form of expression, a language, that only those grieving may truly ever know.

About the author

Emma is a New Zealander, who lives in Auckland. From the beginning of her grief journey, she has found herself turning to poetry to connect with words, and to express feelings during an impossible time. She shares her poems in order to translate complex emotions into words and to help the reader feel less alone in their journey. Through reading the collection of poems, they may identify scenarios and emotions that they may also be experiencing and in doing so, feel less isolated with their grief.
