His commitment to education and passion for storytelling are evident in his literary contributions, which have earned him international recognition.In 2014, Jose was honored with three awards from the International Latino Book Awards organization, a testament to his skill and dedication to literature that resonates across cultural boundaries. In 2024, Jose extended the legacy of his father, Liborio, by co-authoring a four-book memoir series that explores their shared heritage and the rich history of La Capilla de Guadalupe, in Los Altos de Jalisco, Mexico. This series is available in both Spanish and English, with two books in each language, making it accessible to a wider audience.Growing up in the Pico-Union area of Los Angeles during the 70s and 80s, Jose's experiences have infused his work with a unique perspective, blending the vibrant, multicultural tapestry of his upbringing with the profound historical narratives of his ancestral homeland.Beyond the classroom and the world of literature, Jose is an accomplished fine art photographer, whose work has been showcased in galleries, further highlighting his multifaceted creative talents.
